You’re Not a Runner Until…

Unconfirmed Fact:  You’re not a runner until you’ve smeared Vaseline all over your face and gone out for a distance run in subfreezing temperatures.  Today I embarked on a 12-mile LSD run (Long Slow Distance),  but it felt more like a LSSCD (Long Slow Slippery Cold Distance).  It’s only been one day since winter storm Hercules passed through New England, and many sidewalks and roads have yet to be cleared, but you gotta do what you gotta do, so I went for it.  Although my water bottles froze mid-run, overall, I consider this run a success as I did not slip and fall.  You win some, you lose some.

Thank You Notes:

  • Thank you to the only other runner I encountered on my quest and the high five of mutual encouragement, empathy, and respect we exchanged.  Crazy people unite.
  • Thank you to Vaseline for existing and protecting my face from the cold.
  • Thank you to the brave few who cleared off the sidewalks in front of their homes.  You rock!!
